Social jargon: Active/passive digital footprint

Active digital footprint. Data about individuals deliberately shared online through digital photography, podcasting, blogging, video. Passive digital footprint refers to data posted online unintentionally by individuals and collected and harvested by websites to build a profile of users.

Unplannd thot: While public attention and debate has centred around digital footprints of individuals (see Pew Internet study), its worth noting that companies and brands too are leaving behind active and passive digital footprints - with the same potential for use/abuse.
